LSI Build
By Don MacDonald
I have started another landing craft today. I was involved in a regional meet this weekend. I took my landing craft fleet and people like them as they were different then what is usually at this show. A few ask if I had an LSI. From what I can see most people look at beach landings with LSI's. Even had a few WW2 Vets even ask about them and If I had one. So after the show this weekend, I decided to build one.
So this is how it starts. I get a set of plans and I have them blown up to the scale I want. This time it is a WW2 LSI at 30 inches and will be fully RC when I get it done.
I take the plans and transfer then onto the wood. I am now getting 2 sets one for cutting up instead of tracing paper and doing it 2 times. I have the other one in my files and also to use as a guide when I am building.

I then cut the wood then shape it. I cut the sides then keep building. I have a long ways to go before I can call it a ship.
Here is what it looks like I set in the frames then I plank it. I have filling, sanding, priming then glass work ahead of me. I forgot what fun it was as it has been a while since I have done my last hull.
Well here is the hull. I have to reseal it but she came out ok. I decided to do another class of the LST the newer 1100 class. Since THE LST 1166 is up in Longview and I have seen it before. I ordered a set of plans for it today should have them by the end of the weekend.
